Translation support using Computer-Assisted Translation tools
Trados, the translation software released by SDL, is now the industry standard tool. Utilizing Trados when translating manuals enables effective translation work and significant cost reduction, which results in translated documents with consistency and high quality and a shorter delivery period.
Improvement of work efficiency
A database of previously translated documents and their translations can be stored and reused on a sentence-by-sentence basis. This dramatically improves work efficiency. In addition, since the wording and style of the documents can follow the translations of past translations, there is little variation in the finished product, and proofreading work is greatly reduced, making it possible to deliver in a short period of time.
Improvement of translation document quality
Even if the translator or person in charge changes, the style and expression can be standardized by using the translated text in the database, thus ensuring the creation of stable, high-quality documents. In addition, by incorporating your company’s terminology into a CAT tool such as Trados, you can ensure that the wording will not change from translator to translator and that quality will be maintained in the future.
Cost reduction
Translation databases created using CAT tools such as Trados can be reused as Translation Memories (TM) for future projects. For example, when creating the manual for successor model A2 of product A1, if 70% of the content can be reused from the TM of product A1, only the remaining 30% incurs translation costs. Translation memories can also be applied to other product lines, enabling horizontal expansion.
Alignment of software for translation and DTP
When localizing manuals and other documents, simply replacing the translated text can cause various problems during DTP work, such as garbled characters and structural errors. At InfoTrans, our translation and DTP specialists, who are familiar with multilingual environments, can quickly respond to these problems. We have received high praise from our customers. For multilingual deployment, we can convert the data into translation data using CAT tools such as Trados while retaining the layout information and tag information on the DTP application. If you reconvert the data into application data after translation, the subsequent DTP work will require only simple layout adjustments. By streamlining not only the translation period but also the DTP work, the data creation period can be shortened.
Single-source, Multi-use
In recent years, the manual data has been generated based on the concept of Single-source Multi-use. This solution of Single-source Multi-use realizes faster project development and lower cost. InfoTrans also takes on editing HTML/XML-coded data for DTP.
